Queen Mary 2 to Make History in Adelaide
South Australians will see history in the making when the majestic 151,400-tonne Queen Mary 2 sails into Adelaide on Thursday March 11, 2010.
Thousands of people are expected to flock to vantage points to watch the liner as she claims the mantle of the largest ship ever to visit the State when she berths at Adelaide’s Outer Harbour at approximately 8am on her maiden visit to the city.
Queen Mary 2 will depart Adelaide at 6pm that evening as she continues on her third world voyage, bound for Fremantle.
Reaching 62 metres above the water line, the 345m-long Queen Mary 2 can carry up to 2620 guests and 1253 crew and boasts 10 restaurants, five pools, the biggest ballroom at sea and the largest library afloat, featuring more than 8000 books.
Her visit will come two weeks after her “little” sister, the 90,000-tonne Queen Victoria also makes her maiden call to South Australia. The gracious liner will call at Adelaide on Wednesday February 24, arriving at 8am and departing at 6pm for Albany, then Fremantle.
