Queen Mary 2 to Arrive in Sydney in Sunday Evening Spectacular

25 Feb 2010

Sydneysiders will be treated to a Sunday evening spectacular when the majestic 151,400-tonne Queen Mary 2 sails into Sydney Harbour on Sunday March 7, 2010.

Thousands of people are expected to flock to vantage points around the harbour to watch the liner as she arrives in Sydney halfway through her maiden world voyage. She is due through Sydney Heads around 5.10pm.

Too big to berth at Sydney’s main Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay or sail under the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Queen Mary 2 will berth at Garden Island Naval Base around 6.30pm.

Queen Mary 2 will be making her third visit to Sydney and her first overnight call as well as her first evening arrival.  She is scheduled to depart for Adelaide at midnight on Monday March 8.

Reaching 62 metres above the water line, the 345m-long Queen Mary 2 can carry up to 2620 guests and 1253 crew and boasts 10 restaurants, five pools, the biggest ballroom at sea and the largest library afloat, featuring more than 8000 books.

Her visit will come about two weeks after her “little” sister, the 90,000-tonne Queen Victoria also makes an overnight call to Sydney, berthing at the Overseas Passenger Terminal around 7am on Friday February 19 and departing at 6pm on Saturday February 20.
